The card, shaped like a comic, drops into any listing’s photos.

How it works

About ten minutes per book

How the grade is built
  1. 01

    Photograph it

Front and back. Tap the four corners and the cover is straightened.

  2. 02

    Check the flaws

A model marks spine ticks, corner wear and edge wear. The owner confirms or rejects each one, or says they didn’t check it.

  3. 03

    Answer what photos can’t show

Pages, tape, page color, whether it lies flat. A clean book takes a minute.

  4. 04

    Lock and share

A rough grade, a link, and a card for listing photos. Once shared, the report can’t be edited.

What’s in a report

Seen and said, kept apart

A buyer can tell what came from the photos, what the seller added, and what the seller only told us.

Rough grade

FNFine, about 5.5 to 7.0

A letter and the range it spans, never a slab number.

Found in the photos

  • Spine ticks ×3
Front, spine · up to ⅛″
  • Crease, color-breaking
    Front, bottom left · ½″
  • Stain
Back, top left · 1″ · added by the seller

Each flaw with its size in eighths of an inch and where it is.

Locked when shared

Locked · seller’s disclosure

A shared report is dated and frozen. A change makes a new link, and the old one says so.

Straight talk

What Ruffgrade isn’t

Not a CGC grade

A rough letter band from photos and the seller’s answers. It can’t see inside the book or under a raking light.

Not a referee

It records what each side showed and said. It doesn’t decide disputes.

Not a submission advisor

Don’t send a book to CGC on a rough grade. Most modern books only pay at the very top of the scale.
